Historical comment, I think. My mother is 90 and lives with me. I was born in Rockford in 1954 and my whole life, I mean EVERY BIT of my life -- I've heard about the flood in Rockford in 1952. How my mom lost her wedding dress... how Daddy had just finished renovating the basement and the piano was down there, Mom's college papers and books were there (she graduated in 1937) It's a tragedy she never forgot. She can recall every detail about the day, including her neighbor running across the street and busting out the basement windows because he said the house was collapse if he didn't. Turned out he was wrong, if he hadn't done that, there would have been no water in her basement -- the water only came a little way up the glass...

She talks about "the house on Arcadia" as if it were human. Am I correct in assuming this is where the recent flood waters were? Is this the area you are in?

This was the first house my parents bought -- shortly after WWII. They were so proud of it. If I can find photos, and if my assumptions here are correct -- do you think anyone would like to see them?

You can contact me through my blog...
